Anyone Use Sheppard Air For There Written?

I have heard of the legend that is Sheppard Air… but I have never actually used it.

Anybody have any experience with it?

I might try it for an AGI just to see if it’s as close to cheating as Ryan Eckel said!

I used them for the instrument written exam. Worth it.

Its not good for understanding the actual material, but its useful as a test prep guide. Especially for some questions where neither the question nor the answer make any sense.

I’ve only heard good things for passing the written but like Andres mentioned not as helpful for understanding the material which might bite you when you get a 100% on the written and drop the ball on the oral exam.

I set a goal for myself to add on the AGI this summer. The reason for doing it is to force myself to refresh on all the knowledge stuff. Im re-reading the Airplane Flying Handbook now and will re-read Pilots Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge before I sit for the test.

I just don’t want to have a bombed written on my record over something as silly as the AGI!

I’d also like to have some first hand experience with it in case a student asks about it in the future.

I did for FIA fairly recently. It was super effective for test prep.

How far into the CFI prep are you at this point?

I’ve done the FOI, FIA, and spin training. Going to start the flight and instruction training soon

My advice is to actually use the CFI right away… get a few students under your belt ASAP. The teaching skills can drop off quick after the check ride.

I’ve never thought the knowledge test prep was really good for learning knowledge…

Shit man, you’re never done learning with flying. Never. I learn plenty of new stuff every time I go to work and I make probably 5-10 mistakes per hour I’d say. Don’t be afraid of the mistakes you’ll make, treat them all as learning opportunities. Some of the most important notes you’ll take is from your debrief. Also, glad to see you’re learning in a Piper!

I just signed up for Sheppard air to help with my instrument written. Even when you sign up they recommend completing an actual “ground school” for actual knowledge retention / application. I’m finishing up the Sporty’s ground for IRA and plan to jump right into the Sheppard air to prep for the test itself- I will let you know how it goes!

Yeah please keep us posted. If you plan to do your CFI, when you take your Instrument written, do your CFII written as well. The written is good for 24 months last I knew. May have changed. Ask your CFI if this makes sense for you to do.

I’ve never used Sheppard Air for test prep but I’ll take a look at it for the next written. I took my commercial and cfi written tests this past winter using the ASA books which worked out well for me. I finally have my commercial checkride scheduled. Hoping to get my cfi practical soon after that.

I liked the ASA for having the physical book combined with the online practice questions. That combination works well for me.

Totally. I’m sure I’ve said this before but once I had the ASA test prep book in hand, I counted the number of pertinent chapters, scheduled the test in that many days. eg. Number of Chapters = Number of days until test. The ATP one was a bitch with that method not using Sheppard but I passed…

I like that strategy. Puts the pressure on yourself to really focus.
