I have been more seriously looking at getting into flight instruction lately.
@LeeGriffing has been telling me to actually use my flight instructor certification for years now. (I have it, but have never really used it)
The AGI is mostly useless, but I feel like forcing myself to pass that written would help refresh my memory a bit.
Do you think this is a good idea?
What else can you think of that would be as good or better for getting my mind back to the level required to teach?

Yes and Instrument Ground Instructor (IGI) would give you something aviation related to work on while also serving some refreshers for yourself to slowly get yourself back into instrument flying.
Ultimately moving to CFII and being more directly involved there in all aspects there would open up passive revenue and reason to go flying, infrequent or not.

I agree with you on the IGI, but I already have it… so I can’t really get it again! haha
Yes, If/Once I’m doing some instructing, I would definitely prioritize getting the CFII.
Everyone tells me it’s just a simple instrument check ride from the right seat instead of the left.
That’s perfect for me because I can just go completely through instrument training again and take the CFII check ride instead of the Instrument check ride. I don’t think I have flown instrument since 2006!

God I wish I could say that

I would say just go do some instructing. Don’t worry about a new anything until you’ve knocked the rust off the stick and rudder, regulations and customer service skills. Its a freakin sales position in my opinion. They don’t have to come to you. I about starved as a flight instructor before I learned that

I would argue that it’s a bit different coming off of a CFI check ride and jumping into like that than coming in after not really flying much in the last 7 years…
I need to get to the point where I am comfortable flying myself before I jump in and start explaining to someone how it is done.
Yeah, you definitely have to fly first to get back in the groove. Figured that was a foregone conclusion… I’m just saying do some flying and some instructing before pursuing another instructor rating of any kind. Thats my opinion.
