So I was configuring the system I have for GetTailNumbers.com over the weekend and saw a “Deregistered” tail number that I liked.
This happens all the time, because the process from someone reserving a tail number to the reservation being posted on the FAA database is sometimes months.
Now whenever I see this I can’t help myself and I do a double check on the FAA N number request page to see if it shows available for registration there. I have seen this scenario hundreds of times and every time I look it up on the request page, it says “Requested”…
Until now.
So I requested it. The system took my $10 and gave me a remittance ID. Now it’s a waiting game to see if I actually get a reservation issued or if I get a denial letter.
It is very strange to see a short N number like that just sitting there that nobody else has noticed. A quick Google search makes it seem like it was recently on an SR-22. Maybe it sold? Looks like it may have been for sale recently. Possibly it was exported or the new owner wanted a different tail number on the plane?
Very weird!
